The theme of this year’s Nutrition Month goes beyond the basics of physiological health and acknowledges the fundamental role of nutrition in mental health, emotional resilience, and helps foster social and cultural connections. It’s a versatile, meaningful, and inspiring theme that opens the door to countless new opportunities and demonstrates the far-reaching benefits possible with the power of nutrition.

Mental Wellbeing Nutrition could be the missing piece of the puzzle for mental health providers. Mental symptoms such as brain fog or lack of focus can be linked to medical conditions that need nutritional management, such as long COVID or ADH/D.

Balanced meals can also help improve mental function throughout our lifetime regardless of age. For example eating a healthy breakfast helps kids learn better at school, and also eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, can helps reduce the life-changing effects associated with perimenopause.

Key nutritional strategies have also been found to improve mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression. Although dietary counselling is often overlooked, it can lead to big improvements in mental well-being, especially as part of an overall medical and psychological treatment.

Also, according to an 8-year study, reducing the consumption of ultra-processed foods in adults aged 35 to 74 could reduce the speed of cognitive decline.
